About the Archive

Mission

UNSOLVED BLACK CASES ARCHIVE is a respectful, research-based archive of publicly reported unsolved homicides and missing-persons cases involving Black victims. Many of these cases receive far less sustained media attention than comparable cases involving white victims — a pattern researchers and journalists have documented for decades. This archive exists to keep these names, and the facts already on the public record about them, visible and searchable in one place.

What we do

• Collect and summarize information that is already public: news coverage, official statements, court records, and documented investigative journalism.
• Organize cases so family members, researchers, journalists, and the public can find them.
• Attribute information to named source databases (Project Cold Case, Murder Accountability Project, NamUs) rather than presenting it as UBCA's own findings.
• Provide a way for people with documented information to submit it for review.

What we don't do

• We do not conduct original investigations.
• We do not name or accuse any individual as a suspect unless that has been done in an official, publicly documented capacity.
• We do not claim to possess new evidence, and we do not imply UBCA is a law-enforcement body.
• We do not sensationalize. Case files are written in plain, factual language.
